Name: Renji Yanagi

Prefers to be called: Renji. Ren if you like.

Age: 21

History: Renji...has led an interesting life. Both of his parents are Japanese-immigrant New York actors (his mother is currently on a soap opera, his father, ironically, is playing the lead in "Dracula: The Musical" on Broadway). Everything that is trendy, be it education, cultish religion, fashion, whatever, they've tried. As such, Renji has grown up in performing arts schools while living in Manhattan. He likes acting and has fun with it (having appeared in several productions in school, the most memorable being Danny in 'Grease' his junior year), but is not obsessed with the art the way his parents are and has consistently rebelled in big and little ways against their attempt to force him into the mold of a career performer. He has always had an equally deep affinity with numbers and mathematics as with the stage, a dichotomy that more than once has left him feeling only half-fulfilled in anything he does.

After sneaking behind his parents' backs to take calculus, math analysis, physics and the like at school and getting AP credit, he enrolled at Columbia (rejecting Julliard to his parents' great dismay) with the agreement that he could major in whatever he wanted, if he also majored in theatre. Compromise struck, he cranked through the double degree in a hurry, less because he wanted to finish and more because he wanted to get out and get AWAY from his parents. In grad school for statistics and actuarial sciences, Renji lives on his own in a cheap one-bedroom apartment in the Bronx, not too far from his beloved Yankee stadium. (Liking sports and memorizing statistics, one of his younger rebellions against the whole artsy-fartsy lifestyle, stuck - Renji is a huge sports fan and really enjoys watching his teams on TV.) He insists on living on just what he makes and not taking money from his parents. Renji only uses his own last name when necessary; even though his parents use stage names, an occasional reporter manages to ferret out their real names and he doesn't want to be associated with that kind of attention.

Renji tends bar in Greenwich Village when he's not in school or studying or watching ESPN. The pay is pretty good, the tips are pretty good, and he doesn't have to work days. Quietly but unapologetically bisexual, he meets a lot of interesting people there. Though, he has a crush on a guy in his program who withdrew this semester for health reasons...

Unknown to Renji, he himself is an unbroken feeder and has no idea the measure of preternatural creatures that lurk in New York City.
